Petition to change the European Parliament website
Considering that:
- the European Parliament does not respect the HTML standard (example)
- the web developers of the European Parliament did not change anything after the submission of the Open Parliament petition;
- the European Parliament uses the proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing file formats, such as Microsoft Word (DOC), (example), Microsoft Excell (XLS), (example), Microsoft Powerpoint (PPT) (example), MPEG4 (MP4) (example)
- the European Parliament uses the proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing file format H264 (H264) (example)
- the European Parliament uses the proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing file format Flash Video (FLV) (example)
- the European Parliament uses the proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing file format Shockwave Flash (SWF) (example)
- the European Parliament uses the proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing protocol Microsoft Media Server (MMS) (example)
- the European Parliament uses the proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing protocol Microsoft Windows Video (WMV) (example)
- the European Parliament uses the proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing protocol RealTime Streaming Protocol (RTSP) (example)
- the European Parliament uses the proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing protocol RealTime Messaging Protocol (RTMP) (example)
- the European Parliament uses proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing .Net javascript module
- the website of the European Parliament extensively uses javascript for URLs, which forbids search engines and other users who do not want to activate javascript;
- debates transcripts of committees of the European Parliament are not made available at all, so citizens don't have the opportunity to know what is going on;
- voting records in committees of the European Parliament are not made mandatory and not available at all, so citizens don't have the opportunity to know what is going on;
- voting records fof plenary of the European Parliament are not made mandatory and are not available at all, so citizens don't have the opportunity to know what is going on;
We ask Members of the European Parliament:
- to ban the usage of proprietary, patented and royalty-bearing file formats and protocols from the website of the European Parliament, such as:
- Microsoft Media Server (MMS)
- Microsoft Windows Video (WMV)
